The Los Angeles Times writes that members of the Los Angeles Police Department are under investigation over allegations that two on-duty traffic officers participated in a pornographic video. Reportedly, props in the video include official police uniforms and a squad car. According to interim general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation Amir Sedadi, the two officers are currently on administrative leave pending completion of the investigation.

KNBC Channel 4 broke the story Friday

KNBC Channel 4 Los Angeles prompted the LAPD to begin the investigation into the “L.A. porn cops,” and an investigative report was set to air Friday night. According to the newscast, a video of the two officers under suspicion was posted on an adult subscription website. In the video, an actress approaches one of the officers and jumps into his arms. After a scene that eventually engages the second officer, the actress climbs into the back of a squad car and begins performing “lewd acts” on herself, according to KNBC.

“The allegations involving these two individuals in no way should be taken as representative of the nearly 600 professional” parking and traffic officers in Los Angeles, said Sedadi.

Parking enforcement remained mum on cop porn

Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, who is the chair of the city’s Transportation Committee, was recently made aware of the “porn cops” shenanigans, and he told the L.A. Times he is “appalled and outraged” over the allegations. In particular, Rosendahl found it troubling that the supervisor of the parking violation officers in question had been informed of the suspected activity two months ago but never took disciplinary action. Apparently, the parking violation supervisor claimed the two men could not be positively identified in the video.

“If there is any criminal aspect to this, there will be action,” said Rosendahl.

Parking enforcement, anti-gang units under fire

The alleged L.A. porn cops incident is just the latest in a series of black marks against the reputation of the LAPD, dating back to and preceding the Rodney King beating and the O.J. Simpson verdict. Parking ticket operations have come into question, in light of the fact that millions of dollars in distributed fines have gone uncollected. Several of the city’s anti-gang units have also been disbanded because numerous officers have refused to comply with new financial disclosure procedures intended to deter corruption among gang and narcotics officers who frequently handle money, drugs and other contraband.
