The Los Angeles Times reports that a massive database containing the personal details and STD test results for California’s adult entertainment industry has been compromised. Records have been leaked to a Wikileaks-style website, called Porn Wikileaks, reports indicate. Authorities are exploring whether invasion of privacy charges will be filed against the clinic responsible for the data.

Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation under fire

The Sherman Oaks, Calif., Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) clinic, which was founded by former porn star Dr. Sharon Mitchell, has been in hot water since the personal identities or porn stars and their families recently appeared on Pornwikileaks.com. Accurate names, birth dates, stage names, addresses and HIV/AIDS test results appeared on the site after an anonymous individual threatened to reveal the information months before.

The porn industry’s voluntary guidelines specify that performers must have tested HIV-negative within 30 days of participating in a film shoot. Producers and directors may access the AIM database to check test results.

Porn Wikileaks encourages anonymity

Sources close to porn industry blogger Mike South informed him that the only organization that could have had access to the sheer volume of personal information that has appeared on Porn Wikileaks is AIM. Clinic lawyer Jeffrey Douglas told the Times that AIM had no comment regarding allegations that the clinic was responsible for the leak. Pornwikileaks.com, which is registered in the Netherlands, responded via email to the allegations of whether AIM was responsible:

“We purposely encourage people to post as anonymously as possible using proxies and internet cafes when sending leaks so they can not be tracked and this leak came from a anonymous source that can not be tracked. It is possible some names came from AIM but with so many companies who knows. We would also guess that AIM’s database would have a lot more names than what we got but who knows.”

AIM’s stormy history

The AIM clinic, which opened in 1998, was shut down in December 2010 by Los Angeles County public health officials after having been denied a community clinic license due to unspecified “business-related issues,” reports the Times. AIM also came under fire earlier that year when HIV-positive gay porn star Derrick Burts attacked the clinic in the media for not arranging appropriate follow-up care.
