Ted Williams, the former homeless man with a “Golden Voice,” who became a celebrity by viral video, has been issued a subpoena. Williams is wanted in Ohio to testify in a court case involving drug charges. Williams recently checked himself out of rehab after only a few days.

Ted Williams named in subpoena in Ohio

Ted Williams has a subpoena issued for him to appear in court in a Madison County, Ohio, courtroom, according to The Madison Press. The subpoena has been issued so Williams can testify in a case resolving whether the search of a car by police officers was legal. Ted Williams was in the passenger seat of a car driven by Kathleen Chambers, Williams’ girlfriend. Chambers was pulled over as part of a routine stop by police and has been charged with possession of crack cocaine. She and Williams are both traveling while Williams continues interviews with the media. Both are expected in court Feb. 11.

Williams becomes overnight sensation

Over the past month, the meteoric rise of Ted Williams has been a nationwide headline. An insanely popular online video of the “Homeless Man with the Golden Voice” led to several job offers and television appearances. He took a job as the announcer of the Cleveland Cavaliers and has filmed at least one television commercial for Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. He appeared on numerous talk shows, including a series of interviews on “Dr. Phil,” discussing his overnight shot to stardom and past struggles.

Williams checked out of rehab

During his appearance on “Dr. Phil,” Ted Williams promised to check into rehab to deal with addiction issues, according to CNN. Before his talks with Dr. Phil,  Ted Williams had been arrested and released in Los Angeles for a disturbance in his hotel room, and there were rumors the incident involved alcohol. However, he checked out of the rehab facility after a stay of only 12 days, though his admittance was entirely voluntary.
