Virginia’s Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that Democrat Krystal Ball, who is running for 1st Congressional District, may have “an image problem.” This stems from a series of Krystal Ball photos that were recently released. The photos, the release of which incumbent Republican opponent Robert Wittman claims he had nothing to with, depict Ball as a very bad Santa Claus. Wittman has said he had nothing to do with the release of the photos. He wants to talk issues.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in Krystal Ball photos

The Krystal Ball photos, which are approximately six years old, show the candidate at a college Halloween party with her then-husband. Ball’s husband has a small pet chain on him as he is dressed as a reindeer. Ball is wearing a Santa hat. The scandal surrounding the Krystal Ball photos stems from the nose on Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, which resembles a sex toy, and photos of Ball and a friend interacting with it.

Wittman asked that the photos come down now

According to the Times-Dispatch, Wittman asked that the photos must come down off of the blog where they started. He probably is doing this because he either knows the damage is already done or he doesn’t believe in dirty politics. Ball already is doing something about this. She wasn’t going to wait. She made a video to put onto YouTube. In this, she talks bad about the release of the photos. Ball doesn’t deny being the Santa in the photos. She just says she is embarrassed that the photos were released.

Krystal Ball is angry

Krystal Ball discusses issues for the midterm elections in the YouTube video response. She says that there needs to be repair of unemployment and budget deficits. She also said the school systems need help. Ball doesn’t end there. She fired right back at the “crass political operatives (who) will resort to the politics of personal destruction when they can’t talk about the issues.” “Sexist and wrong,” are the words she uses to describe the Krystal Ball photos. Ball also encourages young women with political aspirations – even those who may have done something embarrassing in front of a camera – to run for office and continue to fight.
