Photos of Bishop Eddie Long have surfaced that were allegedly sent to the men by which he is being sued. Bishop Eddie Long is the head pastor of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, which has a following of over 24,000. The Bishop Eddie Long scandal currently unfolding concerns three young men to which Long was a mentor. It is alleged that Eddie Long, who had previously fervently preached against homosexuals, had engaged in inappropriate and predatory acts of a sexual nature with these men he mentored.
Bishop Eddie Long photos surface
Not long after the lawsuit was filed against Eddie Long, photos began surfacing of the pastor, according to CBS. The photos were allegedly sent by Long to the men who are suing him. Several of the Bishop Eddie Long pictures are of Long in tight-fitting work out clothes. However, the attorney for the plaintiffs in the suit does not believe the photos to be of a sexual nature. Eddie Long, senior pastor of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, did send the plaintiffs e-mails, though the content remains unknown.
Fourth man joins lawsuit
A fourth person has joined the lawsuit against Bishop Long, according to CNN. All four plaintiffs allege that Long used his position of power within the church to elicit sexual favors. All four young men come from severely disadvantaged programs, and also allege Long used his position as a benefactor as well as a high-profile clergyman. Bishop Long and his attorney allege that he is innocent. The lawsuit is especially puzzling, as Bishop Long has a history of preaching a staunch anti-homosexual message. He called for a national ban on same-sex marriages in the past.
Day in court pending
The truth of the allegations awaits the decision of the court. The church Bishop Long ministers to is a 24,000 member mega-church. His sermons on Sunday routinely draw 10,000 members or more.
