Last year, the NFL was embroiled in controversy, as Michael Vick was hired as a quarterback after spending time in prison. The Philadelphia Eagles took a major amount of flak from many directions. To be fair, Vick had not even practiced in years. He never played a full game and never really saw more than a few series. The starting quarterback, Kevin Kolb, was injured in a game against the Green Bay Packers.Vick nearly pulled off a victory. Speculation has begun over whether Vick will become the starting quarterback for the Eagles.

Vick takes over against Green Bay

The first game of the season for the Eagles was a game against the Green Bay Packers. During the game, Stewart Bradley, a linebacker, and starting quarterback Kevin Kolb sustained concussions, and both left the field. Michael Vick, who had seen limited action in the 2009 season, took over as quarterback. Vick put on an impressive performance, as he nearly pulled off an upset victory over the Packers. Green Bay is already a Super Bowl favorite, and Vick completed 16 of 24 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown. According to ESPN, Kolb and Bradley haven’t passed a function test after concussion, so Vick will start against the Lions.

Take him to Detroit

In the absence of Kolb, Michael Vick will be the starter against the Detroit Lions. Should he perform well in Detroit, Vick as starter would not be the worst choice Eagles coach Andy Reid could make. Michael Vick is known for being a scrambling quarterback. Not cut from the traditional rocket arm mold, he can evade tacklers and find other spots to pass from quickly. This can match well with the classic West Coast scheme the Eagles use, as long as he consistently connects with receivers.

To be determined

All speculation is just that — speculation. The proof will be in the pudding. If Vick can put up a similar performance in Detroit, he could potentially stay a starter for the Eagles.
