Linda McMahon is the winner of the Republican primary in Connecticut and will be the candidate for the open Senate seat. One of the two seats is open. Linda McMahon is the wife of Vince McMahon Jr., and she is also former WWE Entertainment CEO. She quit the family business to run for the Senate seat, which Chris Dodd is retiring from as his term expires.

The GOP can smell what Linda McMahon is cooking

Linda McMahon’s campaign is not taking any contributions from public funds, Political Action Committees or special interests. She has, according to ABC, spent more than $22 million from her own pocket and isn’t deterred by having to spend more up to November. She’s running against Dick Blumenthal, the Connecticut Attorney General since 1991, and previously a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and Connecticut State Senate.

What is her platform?

Linda McMahon is a classic neo-conservative. Fiscal conservatism and a strong platform of deregulation and creating jobs are central to her campaign. She has come out in support of Obama’s strategy in Afghanistan, but is notably hawkish on Iran. She has broken with mainstream Republicans, having donated money to a pro-choice Republican PAC, though she’s opposed to partial-birth abortion. In an interview with the Connecticut Mirror, she came out as being warmer to LGBT rights than even the president, calling for the end of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell and for gay marriage to be decided individually by states.

What’s the deal?

She is, assuredly, another famous and wealthy person running for office. It isn’t the first time someone has done so, but in fairness her organizational skills as CEO took her company to being almost as popular as NASCAR and the only publicly traded pro wrestling organization. (The McMahons do own most of the shares.) She has some policies that are very popular. What are you gonna do when Wrestle mania goes to Washington, brother?
