According the the U.S. Secret Service, a 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with a shooting reported near the White House on Friday. The man is in custody in Pennsylvania.

Bullet cracked White House window

Two bullet holes were found in the White House Tuesday by Secret Service personnel. One of the bullets cracked a window in the residential area. The window is made of bullet-proof glass, preventing it from shattering. The President and the First Lady were not home at the time. They were on a trip to attend a summit in Hawaii.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots Friday and seeing two vehicles leaving the area of the White House in a hurry.

Bullet holes yet to be connected with shooting

The discovery of the bullet holes is not confirmation that they are connected to the gunfire reported Friday. An assault rifle was found later in an abandoned vehicle near the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge. The vehicle was abandoned presumably because the driver realized he was being followed. The vehicle was linked to Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, leading to his detention.

Suspect detained

Ortega-Hernandez was arrested Wednesday at a hotel in Indiana, Pa. — about 60 miles from Pittsburgh. Secret Service spokesman George Ogilvie told reporters that they received a tip, putting then on Ortega-Hernandez’ trail.

The detained man is from Idaho Falls, Idaho. He went missing from his home on Halloween. He was questioned by police Friday in Arlington, Va. on report of being a “suspicious person.” Arlington police spokesman Joe Kantor said that he was photographed at that time and released. He had arrest records in three states, but was not violating any laws they knew of at the time.

Earlier White House shooting

On October 1994, Francisco Martin Duran of Colorado fired 27 rounds from an automatic rifle at the White House in an attempt to assassinate then-President Bill Clinton. Duran was subdued by bystanders and there were no injuries. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
