Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain has been embroiled in a scandal over allegations that he has been sued multiple times for sexual harassment. It is rumored that women who have sued Cain received thousands in settlement disbursements.
Cain campaign fixes Perry with blame
It has come to light recently that former CEO of the Godfather’s Pizza chain and GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain has been sued several times for sexual harassment, according to MSNBC. Cain’s campaign spokespeople are pinning the blame for that disclosure on other candidates.
Cain campaign staff say the campaign staff of Governor Rick Perry of Texas is behind the disclosure of Cain’s harassment suits to the press, which Perry has adamantly denied. According to CNN, Cain said in a recent interview that one of his former aides, Curt Anderson, recently joined the Perry campaign and to “connect the dots.” He also said that it was “a vicious liberal attack on me.”
A spokesperson for the Perry campaign recently blamed the Mitt Romney campaign, according to MSNBC.
Big payouts rumored
According to ABC, political news site Politico and the New York Times both reported that two women have sued Herman Cain for sexual harassment and received substantial settlements. Politico reported that a woman who sued Cain during his tenure as the head of the National Restaurant Association, who now works for the federal government in Maryland, received a settlement of $45,000. Her lawyer told the media that she will not be making any statements on the matter. The settlement also included a confidentiality agreement.
Another accuser, who also sued Cain while he worked for the National Restaurant Association, was reported to have received a settlement of $35,000, equivalent to one year’s worth of her pay. Her name also isn’t being released, but the alleged harassment took place at a restaurant in Crystal City, Va., when Cain and other NRA employees went out for drinks. Accounts vary about exactly what transpired.
Restaurant group to make statement
According to USA Today, the National Restaurant Association is looking at documents related to the claim reported by Politico, to see whether it can make any statement on the matter. The lawyer for the woman involved in that claim, Joel Bennett, wants to make public any details of the case that are legal to disclose.
