A giant man made of Legos was found Tuesday, washed up on a beach in Florida. This is the third such figure to wash up on beaches on opposite sides of the Atlantic.

‘No Real Than You Are’

Jeff Hindman was walking on the Siesta Key Beach in Sarasota County, Fla. at about 7 a.m. Tuesday when he came across the 8 foot tall, bright green, yellow and red fiberglass figure. The cryptic words “No real than you are” were printed across his bright green chest. Across his back was the number eight, and the name “Ego Leonard.”

The appearance sparked a lot of speculation in the community. One woman told a local television station, “I kind of think it’s from the UFO people, I really do.” Still others guessed it was a publicity stunt for the Legoland theme park that recently opened in nearby Winter Haven.

Not sanctioned by Lego

Representatives of Legoland, however, responded with statement to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office:

“This activity is in no way sponsored or endorsed by The Lego Group or Merlin Entertainments, who run Legoland attractions. Hope you’ve given Mr. Lego Imposter his one phone call and an attorney!”

Other giant Lego men

Oddly, this is not the first time this has happened. Two other giant Lego men have been found washed up on beaches. Both appeared three years ago. One came ashore in Zandvoort, Holland. The other washed up in Brighton, England.

‘Prescription Art’

It turns out that Ego Leonard is featured in a series of paintings on the Dutch site, “Prescription Art.” The Lego figure is seen in various settings with different slogans. The slogans read “Play by the rules,” “Devotion,” “Wait here,” “How are you doing?,” “I love you” and “No real than you are.”

Ego Leonard gives his mission statement on the site:

“My name is Ego Leonard and according to you I come from the virtual world. A world that for me represents happiness, solidarity, all green and blossoming, with no rules or limitations. Lately however, my world has been flooded with fortune-hunters and people drunk with power. And many new encounters in the virtual world have triggered my curiosity about your way of life. I am here to discover and learn about your world and thoughts. Show me all the beautiful things that are there to admire and experience in your world. Let’s become friends, share your story with me, take me with you on a journey through beautiful meadows, words, sounds and gestures.”

Whatever his purpose may be in Florida, he is now in the protective custody of the local law enforcement. “Mr. Leonard is being kept in a secure environment until his owner comes forward,” the police statement said.
