A 32-year-old woman, a former science teacher at the East Aurora High School in Illinois resigned from her job last week and turned herself in to police Tuesday. She had been accused of “sexting,” sending inappropriate pictures of herself to one of her 15-year-old male students.
Police were tipped off
Police received a tipoff about the pictures on Sept. 19, according to CBS Chicago. The charge was filed on Sept. 27. No details were given as to who sent the tip to the local authorities.
Kelly K. Miller of Dundee, Ill., was charged with misdemeanor sexual exploitation of a child, according to a press release issued by the Aurora police department.
Two explicit photos ‘sexted’
Allegedly, according to the press release, Miller sent two explicit photos of herself in text messages to the unidentified boy in either late May or June.
Miller resigned from the school
Clayton Muhammad, a spokesperson for the East Aurora School District 131, confirmed that Miller resigned he from her position with the school last week. Aurora city spokesman Dan Ferrelli broke the news to the Chicago Sun-Times that Miller had turned herself in to the local authorities.
Released on Tuesday night
Miller posted bail of $1,000 — 10 percent of a $10,000 bond — and was released Tuesday night. She has been scheduled to appear in an Aurora Branch Court on Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. Police say they are still investigating the matter.
Colorado woman ‘sexts’ 14-year-old
In related news, a Colorado woman, Stephanie Dickinson, 37, was arrested earlier this month and charged with Internet luring of a child. Dickinson allegedly “sexted” a 14-year-old male student. She was the board treasurer for the Ellicott School District.
Allegedly, Dickinson would also show up at football games and tell the boy he had a sexy smile. The boy, disturbed by the alleged familiarities, reported the matter to the police.
