The latest in build-your-own flavor business, Chocomize is based in Cherry Hill, N.J.. If you choose to Chocomize, you can choose from thousands of combinations of chocolate and mix-ins, and you’ll have your custom chocolate it in just a few days.

Why Chocomize is so tasty

Chocomize has a basic but brilliant concept. There are three choices of chocolate and 100 mix-ins. For example, if you want a cherry bacon white chocolate bar, you can get it. Chocomize is appealing to people because they can order almost anything they want. Customers can even bulk-order Chocomize chocolate for events. To top it all off, 1 percent of the price of Chocomize products goes to your choice of charity.

A move to custom

Chocomize is only the latest addition to the world of customized food. Ice cream, soda and candy companies have long been customizing. The revival in handmade arts and crafts has been increasing the popularity of customization. This so-called “Makers Movement” is already adding up to more than $1 billion a year in sales. For $4 dollars a pop, Chocomize expands this to chocolate bars.

Make your own Chocomize bar

Chocomize candy is worth the money if you want fancy boxes and professional printing. You can try customized chocolate at home for much less money, though. Pick up melting chocolate and mix-ins at a grocery store or restaurant supply store. Melt the chocolate in a double-boiler or a crockpot set on low. Add the mix-ins and pour the whole kit and caboodle into a wax paper lined pan. To be extra fancy, use a candy mold from a restaurant supply store. At a about a quarter of the the cost, you can give yourself the Chocomize experience for a lower cost — and less waiting.
